Cobra Group sets an example by helping a couple, Nigel Eastwood and Vijaya, who work for the welfare of kids in Sierra Leone, the badly affected African country.

Sierra Leone is a nation that has been afflicted with all kinds of issues- endemic corruption, suppression of the press, starvation, health issues etc. Sierra Leone is the twelfth-lowest-ranked country on the Human Development Index and eighth-lowest on the Human Poverty Index. Kids in Sierra Leone face all kinds of issues. The Lancaster based charity for which Nigel and Vijaya work are focussed on providing relief to children in Kailahun, one of the most badly affected areas in Sierra Leone. The Cobra Foundation has been supporting the organisation in a commendable manner.

Recently when Nigel and Vijaya took part in a sporting event in Manchester, aiming to raise £3000.00 to buy a vehicle to transport the children in Kailahun, the Cobra Group sponsored them and thus promoted the noble cause that they were working for.

Cobra Group representative Paige Adgemis, who in fact represents the Cobra Foundation, recently joined a humanitarian trip undertaken to Zambia, Botswana and Namibia.

Paige Adgemis was part of a team that comprised of eight Ruyton students, two teachers and one World Challenge leader. It was a four-week trip with Zambia being their first destination. They arrived in Zambia and paid a visit to the incredible Victoria Falls. Then they did their acclimatisation trek to Botswana. They travelled along the ‘Okavango Delta’ on handmade wooden boats similar to canoes called ‘Mokoros’, then travelled through the desert in Namibia and arrived at Waterberg Primary School. This school, their final destination, relies on donations and volunteers to continue educating Namibian Children. The team did some real good work there. Says Paige Adgemis, “On our first day we were faced with the challenge of purchasing all the required equipment with the money fundraised throughout the year. We had to travel for over an hour to get to Otjiwarango, where we spent a tiring and stressful day finding materials and bargaining for the best prices”. They did many things- dug trenches, mixed cement, laid bricks and also did many other chores. The remaining money they spent on providing the children with netballs, soccer balls, pencils and various other goods. They also interacted with the students and heard them out.

Cobra Group representatives have always been accompanying such trips to different places and doing what they could to make things better for others.
